The Gulf Coast Banjo Society entertains at Snook Haven on Thursdays from October through May.
Do you hear banjos? Each Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Snook Haven, located at 5000 East Venice Ave. in Venice, FL, hosts the wildly popular and highly entertaining Gulf Coast Banjo Society. Clap your hands, tap your feet and sing along as the "Banjos" strum their way through classic tunes from the (previous) roaring 20's, 30's and beyond to cover over a century's worth of American music.
For those who have not yet visited Snook Haven, Banjo Thursday is an excellent way to experience all the restaurant has to offer. Amazing live entertainment, an extremely engaged audience, delicious house-smoked BBQ, homemade BBQ sauces, ice-cold craft brews (featuring a list that boasts over 30 options to choose from) and one of the best locations in Venice, FL - "smack dab" on the Myakka River - await guests at the end of a canopied dirt road. Well-worth the adventure, it's Old Florida at its finest.
For the past 32 years from October through May, the Gulf Coast Banjo Society has been gracing the Snook Haven live entertainment stage on Thursdays around midday. Many of the members are snowbirds, so the number of performers on stage may total anywhere from 10 in October to 55 plus in January. The teal-clad and mostly male crew rehearses, performs and has a grand 'ole time strummin' away underneath Snook Haven's beautiful Spanish oaks. Be on the lookout for mandolin, accordion and guitar players among the sea of banjos, too.
Snook Haven opens its counter to serve drinks at 10:30 a.m. on Banjo Thursdays as guests are arriving and getting settled. The restaurant also opens early at 11 a.m. for full service during the event. During Florida's busy season, crowds are large and may reach at least 600 guests. A 1,000-visitor audience is not unheard of! Guests should ensure to arrive early to find a seat. The Gulf Coast Banjo Society plays rain or shine and will retreat inside the restaurant in case of inclement weather.
